Summary
The fifth edition of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) Newsletter, covering January–April 2024, highlights Kenya’s efforts to prevent and counter terrorism and violent extremism through national, community, regional and international collaboration. Key areas covered include the launch of the Jasiri Observatory on violent extremism; commemoration of the Garissa University terrorist attack; Kenya’s engagement in the Global Counter Terrorism Forum and other regional counter-terrorism initiatives; capacity-building for government officials, security actors and judicial officers; community-based prevention and countering of violent extremism (PCVE); strengthening community–security relations; and initiatives addressing radicalisation and extremist recruitment. The newsletter also highlights Kenya’s whole-of-society and multi-agency approach to counter-terrorism, including the role of civil society, faith leaders, youth, communities and other stakeholders.
