Govt moots model Bill to counter violent extremism

Summary
The government is formulating a draft Prevention of Violent Extremism Model Bill to help counties fight violent extremism by domesticating the Prevention of Terrorism Act. Nairobi, Nyeri, and Laikipia counties are implementing provisions on a pilot basis. The Bill aims to mainstream funding for prevention strategies, build public trust in security organs, and provide a framework for counties to allocate resources. NCTC Director Kibiego Kigen noted the partnership with the Council of Governors and County Assembly Forum.
