Forging Peace from the Pulpit: Multi-Stakeholder Initiative to Curb Violent Extremism Through Faith-Based Action
Inter-Religious Council of Kenya, April 2025
Summary
On April 17, 2025, the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) launched a regional three-year initiative, "Peacebuilding and Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) in East Africa," in Nairobi. Implemented with government agencies and the UNDP, the program addresses the growing threat of violent extremism in Kenya, Somalia, and South Sudan by empowering grassroots leaders, religious figures, and youth with interfaith dialogue tools and scripturally-based counter-narratives. Targeting 10 strategic counties in Kenya, the initiative focuses on building community resilience and reclaiming religious authority to foster peace in regions vulnerable to radicalization and instability.
